Atletico Madrid vs Arsenal: Team news, injuries, possible lineups

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid will today night clash with Arsenal in the Europa League second leg semi-final tie at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Simeone’s men heads into this clash after playing a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium last week as Antoine Griezmann’s late equaliser cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette’s opener.

The Los Rojiblancos have won the Europa League trophy on two occasions in 2010 and 2012.

Atletico beat Alaves 1-0 in the La Liga on Sunday and are currently occupying the second position in the Spanish topflight league table with 75 points from 35 games.

Striker, Diego Costa should be available for the second leg after returning to action against Deportivo La Coruna over the weekend.

Defender, Filipe Luis has recovered from a broken leg, while Sime Vrsaljko will miss out after seeing red in the first leg. Juanfran is also out of action.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal are looking to win the continental competition to provide them with major silverware, a route into the Champions League.

The Gunners beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 the last time both clubs met during an Emirates Cup clash in 2009.

The North London club heads into this clash after their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Wenger’s men are currently occupying the sixth position in the Premier League table with 57 points from 35 games.

Midfielder, Mohamed Elneny is out and so is Santi Cazorla, but both players are still a few weeks away from playing.

David Ospina, Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have all been training ahead of the game and all three could be in contention to start.

Forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ineligible to play for the Gunners in this competition.
