The State Government says it is leaving no stone unturned in giving the late former Vice-president, Dr Alex Ekwueme a befitting burial.
The road which is a Federal road is being asphalted by the State Government.
Governor Obiano revealed that the state government decided to undertake the project because of the personality of the deceased and the premium it attaches to the burial.
According to him, the road will create smooth access into the state for the expected large number of people expected to come into the state for the event.
The site engineer of the contracting firm handling the project, Mr Maher Dib said they are working day and night to ensure that they achieve the project before the Thursday deadline.
From Amansea boundary, Governor Obiano proceeded to inspect setting up of the ground at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, for the deceased’s Commendation Ceremony.
It was observed that tents were being erected while electrification and beautification works were also ongoing.
Speaking after the inspection exercise, Governor Obiano said the facilities are put in place 100 percent by the State government to accommodate over 25,000 persons who would be attending the ceremony.
Describing the late Dr Ekwueme as an asset to the State, Governor Obiano said no amount spent to give him a befitting burial will be enough to repay his contributions towards the growth and development of the state and the country
