Anambra: Maduagwu Urges Ndigbo To Uphold Cultural Heritage

Yam festivalThe Association of Non indigenes in the State, recently celebrated its New Yam festival.

The event which was performed at the Awka Temporary stadium, attracted the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barrister Rita Maduagwu, traditional rulers, Senior Special Assistants among others.New Yam festival in Igbo land is an aspect of culture, used to thank God for His mercies and blessings to the people.

The ceremony which was performed by the Traditional Head of Non Indigenes in the State, Chief Amos Nkwuda, featured cultural dances and masquerade displays.

Speaking during the event, Chief Nkwuda, advised non-indigenes in the State to continue to be law abiding in addition to being supportive to the programmes and policies of the Obiano administration.

He called on the people, to avoid acts capable of truncating the Nation’s democratic governance.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly Barrister Rita Maduagwu while felicitating with the non-indigenes on their New Yam festival, enjoined Ndi-Igbo, to uphold their rich cultural heritage, urging them to vote for Governor Willie Obiano in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

In their separate speeches, the President-General of Ebonyi Progressives Union, Awka branch, Mr Sunday Nwoba, the Chairman Board of Trustee of the Association of Non-indigenes in the State Mr Peter Nwachukwu, Leader of Elites Corps of Nigeria,

Anambra State Command, Pastor Jude Nze, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters Chief Ugochukwu Nwimo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Utilities and Water Resources, Mr Victor Meju, among others, felicitated with the group on the event and charged Ndigbo to avoid acts that will make their language and culture to go into extinction.

Highlight of the event was cutting of the New Yam by the Traditional Head of the Non-Indigenes, Chief Nkwuda.
